Thematic Area
Sustainable Rural Development
Sustainable Rural Development is a process that seeks social change and sustainable economic development for the rural community´s on-going progress. The ultimate goal is to improve their quality of life and preserve the environment. Tree plantation and forest conservation efforts are rarely successful in the absence of a general understanding of the need to integrate sustainable rural development considerations. The sustainable rural development interventions particularly rural infrastructures could be a good incentive and/or motivational factor to support conservation by the local communities. Therefore, to seek social change and sustainable economic development for the rural communities, certain sustainable rural development measures are always integrated in the NCDC designed projects. This includes different activities of various scales such as drinking water system improvement, irrigation canal improvement, trail improvement, promoting alternative energy, vegetable farming, fruit trees growing, bee keeping, goat farming, health and hygiene improvement, and capacity enhancement in entrepreneurship skill.
